| Organic farmers launch lawsuit Saskatchewan, Canada organic farmers launched a class action lawsuit in Jan. against Monsanto and Aventis. The farmers are seeking compensation caused by the companies' genetically engineered (GE) canola. The farmers contend that the widespread contamination of conventional crops by the GE canola is so extensive across the Canadian prairies that most certified organic farmers are unable to grow the crop. The farmers are also seeking an injunction to prevent Monsanto from introducing GE wheat in the province. The Saskatchewan Organic Directorate (SOD) has set up an Organic Agriculture Protection Fund to support the suit. |
