The Organic Path...
In order to preserve the long-term viability of Mother Earth, humanity must
learn to co-exist respectfully with the multitudes of organisms that also call this bountiful planet "home". Organic agriculture is designed to do just that. According to a recent United Nations survey, over 18 million acres are currently
devoted to certified organic agriculture in 130 nations.
At the heart of the decision
to take "the organic path" is:
A call for environmental protection and sustainable agriculture
The growing concern over reports of unsafe food products
A heightened interest in health and nutrition
What exactly is organic, anyway?
Organic agriculture embraces a holistic approach to farming in order to foster a healthy ecosystem through biodiversity. Unlike conventional farming techniques, organic farming does not involve the use of synthetic pesticides or artificial fertilizers.
Organic
agriculture:
promotes soil that is fertile naturally by relying on ecological interactions to maximize yields, minimize pests and build soil fertility.
incorporates organic matter and natural fertilizers into the soil to protect it from depletion by repeated harvesting.
weeds and pests are managed using crop rotations,
insect predators, hand-picking and naturally-derived sources (for example, the use
of natural biocides such as pheromone lures).
And just as importantly, organic
farming does not endorse genetic engineering of plants or animals.
At Sila Nutrition, we are firmly committed to organic agriculture. For more

It has been estimated that approximately 60% of our prepackaged foods contain genetically engineered ingredients. Genetic engineering involves artificially incorporating genes from one species into another. For example, a gene can be spliced from a fish and inserted into a potato.
The health implications of genetically engineered food remain unclear. One concern among scientists is the potential threat of new toxins and allergens being introduced. There are also fears that one genetic engineering technique may increase antibiotic resistance, which has prompted the British Medical Association to call a moratorium on genetically engineered crops.
Aside from the health implications to humans, beneficial insects such as ladybugs, the monarch butterfly and bees are also adversely affected. Unfortunately, herbicide-resistant crops being developed by multinational corporations ensure their continued use and sale.
At Sila Nutrition, all our ingredients are 100% GMO-free. We believe that all food products that contain GMO's should be labeled for consumers. For more information on GMO's and labeling, please visit our Links page.
